The Independent Facilitator is responsible for providing support to enable families and consumers of the California Regional Centers to support the transition from the traditional program into the Self-Determination Program within the Regional Center and support clients who are already in the program. The Self-Determination Program is overseen by the Department of Developmental Services (DDS).

We are looking to hire someone who has either professional or lived experience supporting an individual with a developmental disability. The job requires managing multiple high-level tasks simultaneously and thrives in a busy environment. Project management skills/experience a plus!

This position is full-time and working hours are 9-5:30 pm Monday-Friday, although the occasional evening or weekend shift may be necessary. This position is mostly remote, but requires that you reside in Los Angeles, CA. There will be some in-person meetings needed in Tarzana, CA .

DUTIES OF THE POSITION

  • Guide and Support families and individuals with developmental disabilities through a program in California Regional Centers called the Self-Determination Program.

  • Conduct interviews with individuals with disabilities and their families to create a Person-Centered Plan, including providing education about the process and services, identifying strengths and areas of need, and support throughout the process.

  • Provide Service Navigation for services at the Regional Center and other resources available to them throughout the state and county.

  • Provide advocacy with the Regional Center throughout the process.

  • Guide families and individuals through a budgeting and spending plan process.

  • Provide ongoing support to families who are part of the Self-Determination process.

  • Keep detailed notes of all meetings and support with answering client questions, scheduling, and maintenance of all business documents.

  • Manage various tasks simultaneously at a high-level including creation of documents, responding to client inquiries by email/phone/text, coordination with various agencies, and internal reporting requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

In order to perform these functions, the Independent Facilitator must meet the following qualifications:

  • Able to legally work in the United States.

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

  • Bachelor’s degree; Master’s preferred, in a related field

  • Able to provide 3 verifiable non-family references, including 1 previous employer.

  • High degree of discretion in dealing with confidential information.

  • Must have reliable high-speed internet and a quiet and private work environment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience balancing multiple tasks simultaneously; experience with project management preferred

  • Experience working with persons with developmental disabilities or relevant personal lived experience required

  • Experience working at a California Regional Center essential.

  • Knowledge of and experience with the Regional Center System and Self-Determination Program

  • Experience with Microsoft Office & Google Suite (Word, Excel, OneDrive) is essential.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay Rate: $30-$35 per hour, depending on experience
